Children are one of the most vulnerable groups in traffic crashes. Childsafety seats (CSSs) can decrease the severity of crash outcomes for children.The usage of CSSs has significantly improved in the U.S. over the last 40years, but it is anticipated that the usage of CSSs in popular ridesharingservices (RSSs), such as Uber and Lyft, is not widespread. This paper used apublicly available nationwide internet survey that was designed to gain anunderstanding of riders and drivers perception toward child passenger safety inregard to technological perception on RSSs. This study performed a rigorousexploratory data analysis to identify the key psychological insights of thesurvey participants. Additionally, a recently developed dimension-reductionmethod has been applied to understand the co-occurrence patterns of theresponses to gain intuitive insights. It is found that urban-dwelling parentswith higher education degrees eventually use RSSs often due to theirfamiliarity of the technological advantages. On the other hand, non-urban andmoderately educated parents and guardians are dismissive in using RSSs whilehaving kids with them to ride due to less trust on the technology.
