We propose a set-up which can be used to create and detect the atomiccounterpart of snake state trajectories observed in electronic systems whereeither sign of the charge-carrier changes or the magnetic field changesdirection. In this work, we use a laser-induced synthetic gauge field thatdepends on the cavity photon numbers to generate such trajectories. We analysethe motion of a single atom in the presence of such a gauge field whileincluding the back-action of the cavity fields. We demonstrate that the outputcavity field provides a non-destructive way of observing the real-time atomicdynamics inside the ring cavity. We also show that we can tune the systemparameters to modify the properties of the snake state and even amplify theeffect of cavity feedback to destroy the snake-like trajectories.
