Use of low resolution analog to digital converters (ADCs) is an effective wayto reduce the high power consumption of millimeter wave (mmWave) receivers. Inthis paper, a receiver with low resolution ADCs based on adaptive thresholds isconsidered in downlink mmWave communications in which the channel stateinformation is not known a-priori and acquired through channel estimation. Aperformance comparison of low-complexity algorithms for power and ADCallocation among transmit and receive terminals, respectively, is provided.Through simulation of practical mmWave cellular networks, it is shown that theuse of low resolution ADCs does not significantly degrade the system throughput(as compared to a conventional fully digital high resolution receiver) whenusing the adaptive threshold receiver in conjunction with simple power and ADCallocation strategies.
