To fully exploit van der Waals materials and heterostructures, newmass-scalable production routes that are low cost but preserve the highelectronic and optical quality of the single crystals are required. Here, wedemonstrate an approach to realize a variety of functional heterostructuresbased on van der Waals nanocrystal films produced through the mechanicalabrasion of bulk powders. Significant performance improvements are realized inour devices compared to those fabricated through ink-jet printing ofnanocrystal dispersions. To highlight the simplicity and scalability of thetechnology a multitude of different functional heterostructure devices such asresistors, capacitors, photovoltaics as well as energy devices such aslarge-area catalyst coatings for hydrogen evolution reaction and multilayerheterostructures for triboelectric nanogenerators are shown. The simplicity ofthe device fabrication, scalability, and compatibility with flexible substratesmakes this a promising technological route for up-scalable van der Waalsheterostructures.
