We analyze the DAMA/Libra-phase2 modulation result using a basis of 16effective operators describing the WIMP interaction with photons, gluons andquarks up to mass dimension seven. For each operator we fix the effectivetheory at the scale of 2 GeV and parametrize WIMP-quark interactions in termsof two independent couplings for up-type and down-type quarks. We discuss theconnection with the non-relativistic limit of the effective theory in terms ofoperators invariant by Galilean transformations, and the impact of the ensuingmomentum-dependent Wilson coefficients due to long-range interactions or lightmeson poles. Most relativistic operators yield a good fit of the DAMAmodulation effect, although for parameters excluded by the constraints fromXENON1T and PICO60.
