A theory which uses data of the static pair-correlation function is developedto calculate quantities associated with the viscous slowing down of supercooledliquids. We calculate value of the energy fluctuations that determine thenumber of stable bonds a particle forms with neighbors from data of thestructural relaxation time. The number of bonds and the activation energy forrelaxation are shown to increase sharply in a narrow temperature range close tothe glass temperature. The configurational entropy calculated from values ofthe configurational fluctuations is found in good agreement with the valuedetermined from simulations.
