The entanglement of population dynamics, evolution, and adaptive radiationfor species competing for resources is studied. For resource harvesting, wemodify the model used in Ref. Phys. Rev. Lett. 118 048103 and introduce newresource contest principles. We realistically implement the effects ofbeneficial and deleterious mutations on the coefficients in the equationsgoverning the population dynamics and consider the emergence of reproductiveisolation. The proposed model is shown to be in agreement with the competitiveexclusion principle and no vacant niche principle. We establish a mechanismthat contributes to preventing the accumulation of irreversible deleteriousmutations: competition between recently diverged species/subpopulations. Theproposed model is applicable for descriptions of more complex systems. In caseof many constants in time resources, one observes very rapid specialization, afeature not reproducible by the common model.
