This paper proposes an accurate fault location algorithm technique based onhybrid synchronized sparse voltage and sparse current phasor measurements. Theproposed algorithm addresses the performance limitation of fault locationalgorithms based on only synchronized sparse voltage measurements (SSVM) and ononly synchronized sparse current measurements (SSCM). In the proposed method,bus voltage phasor of faulty line or close to the faulty line and branchcurrent phasor of the adjacent line is utilized. The paper contributes toimprove the accuracy of fault location and deter the effect of CT saturation byusing hybrid voltage and current measurements. The proposed algorithm has beentested on four bus two area power system and IEEE 14 bus system with thetypical features of an actual distribution system. The robustness of algorithmhas been tested by variation in fault location, fault resistance, loadswitching. The simulation results demonstrate the accuracy of the proposedalgorithm and ensure a reliable fault detection and location method.
