This contribution studies a well-known failure criterion and its applicationto the life-time prediction of adhesive anchor systems under sustained load.The Monkman-Grant relation, which has previously been applied to a wide rangeof materials, is now applied to adhesive anchors installed in concrete. Itpostulates a linear relationship between the logarithm of stable creep rate andtime to failure. In this paper the criterion is evaluated first on a largeexperimental campaign on one concrete involving two chemically differentadhesives and then by several experimental data sets reported in literature. Inall cases the data is well represented and highly accurate predictions areobtained. The second part of the paper focuses on the relationship betweenstable creep rate and relative load level of the remote constant stress basedon the Norton-Bailey and the Prandtl-Garofalo creep laws. The latter was foundto perform better on fitting the experimental data. Finally, the combination ofthe Monkman-Grant criterion and the aforementioned creep laws allows theprediction of stress versus time to failure curves including uncertaintybounds, that are in very good agreement with all experimental data sets, makingit an interesting alternative to existing test methods for adhesive anchorsystems under sustained loads.
