We discuss some aspects of Pereira et al. (2018) concerning magnetarsdescribed by nonlinear theories of the electromagnetism and make the case forthe Born-Infeld Lagrangian. We focus on the increase of toroidal magneticfields in these systems with respect to ordinary magnetars and the subsequentincrease of gravitational wave production. In summary, nonlinear theories ofthe electromagnetism would make it more likely for the detection ofgravitational waves with future detectors, which could constrain nonlinearaspects of electrodynamics not entirely possible on Earth-based particleaccelerators.

Born-Infeld magnetars: larger production of gravitational waves due to larger toroidal magnetic fields
