We present a new method for proving Correa-Jofr\'e-Thibault theorem thatmonotonicity of subdifferential implies convexity of the function.  This new method is based on barrier functions. Barrier functions helpovercome some of the main technical difficulties when working with lowersemicontinuous functions.
