The electroosmotic flow of non-Newtonian fluids in deformable microchannelsis fundamentally important in the understanding of the hydrodynamics inphysiological flows. The performance of these microchannels is governed by theload bearing capacity indicating the maximum amount of load that the device canwithstand. While significant research efforts are aimed towards the coupling ofelectrokinetics with substrate deformability, the corresponding enhancement inthe performances still remains elusive. Towards this, employing an intricatecoupling between substrate compliance, hydrodynamic, and electrokineticmodulations, we have analyzed the possible sources of alterations in the flowphysics in a deformable microchannel under the rheological premises ofviscoelastic fluids which have a close resemblance with biological fluidstypically used in several bio and micro-fluidic applications. The present studyreveals that by operating under favorable regimes of parameters like theconcentration and molecular weight of the polymer, the quality of the Newtoniansolvent, and the concentration of electrolyte, one can achieve substantialaugmentation in the load carrying capacity of a deformable microchannel forviscoelastic fluids as compared to its Newtonian counterpart. We believe thatthe present theoretical framework can be extremely important in the designingof electro-kinetically modulated bio-mimetic microfluidic devices.
