In this paper, we report an experimental study of noise features of polarizedand unpolarized amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) with narrow opticalbandwidth, registered from a conventional low-doped erbium fiber. Wedemonstrate that ASE noise can be considered as train of Gaussian-like pulseswith random magnitudes, widths, and inter- pulse intervals. The statisticalproperties of these three parameters of noise pulsing are analyzed. We alsopresent the results on the influence of ASE noise upon optical spectrumbroadening, produced by self-phase modulation at propagating alongcommunication fiber, and demonstrate that ASE noise derivation stands behindthe broadening shaping.
