In this work, we attempt to optimize the design of an electromagneticinduction device that captures the energy from the arterial wall pulsation forthe purpose of powering implantable medical devices. The artery comes through aflexible coil which is permitted to freely deform along with the artery in amagnetic field produced by two permanent ring magnets that are placed inparallel. As a result of the coil's motion in the magnetic field, analternating voltage proportional to the velocity of the arterial wall isinduced at the coil's terminals. The coil consists of a main loop which isaligned with the magnets' holes and a number of side loops fabricated usingenameled coper wire 0.05mm in diameter. In an attempt to increase the outputpower of the device, different coil geometries were developed with varyingnumbers and sizes of side loops, using 3D printed molds. An experimental setupthat mimics the blood flow and arterial wall deformation was used to assess thedevice performance. The acquired measurements demonstrated that the producedvoltage and power can be notably increased by increasing the number anddiameter of the coil's side loops.
