This paper introduces a microstrip square patch antenna with a novel low-costand efficient feeding mechanism for millimetre-wave frequencies targeting at 28GHz. The radiating patch is excited by the technique of empty substrateintegrated waveguide, and two different slot configurations have been examinedin this regard. It has been observed that the antenna gain profile andradiation efficiency is significantly improved in both configurations ascompared to the microstrip square patch antenna provided with conventionalfeeding.
