The radial characteristic of a partially magnetized plasma column created bya hot cathode filament is presented. It is found that in the absence ofmagnetic field, plasma potential and density varies similarly according toBoltzmann distribution. However as the magnetic field increases, a cleardivergence is seen as plasma density becomes more pronounced in the centrewhereas a corresponding minima is observed in plasma potential; thus limitingthe radial diffusion of positive ions towards the grounded sidewalls. Aphenomenological model based on short-circuiting effect is developed, whichfairly explains this contrasting behaviour.
