A new analytic statistical mechanical model for polar fluids with anintermolecular pair potential consisting of a hard core and multiple attractiveYukawa tails has been developed. It includes all the leading terms in theorientationally averaged electrostatic energies up to quadrupole-quadrupoleinteractions. This model is capable of producing analytic expressions for allthe thermodynamic properties of both non-polar and polar fluids. We haveevaluated the Yukawa potential parameters to represent the dispersion potentialfrom several methods and formulated other Yukawa potentials to representelectrostatic potentials in simple closed forms, which then could be calculateddirectly. Therefore, introducing an arbitrary number of Yukawa potentials doesnot introduce any further computational difficulty. Thermodynamic properties ofthree representative fluids (argon, carbon dioxide, and methyl chloride) arepredicted with this model. The results indicate good agreement betweenexperiment and the predictions from this model, given only the Yukawaintermolecular potential parameters and multipole moments.
