Many wireless protocols wait a small and random amount of time which iscalled jitter before sending a packet to avoid high contention and packetcollision. Jitter has been already proposed for many routing protocolsincluding AODV and LOADng. However, since they do not consider any link qualityparameters or metrics (such as ETX) in routing, they fail to be efficient inmetric-based routing protocols. A metric-based jitter mechanism is proposed inthis paper and a closed form expression is derived that enables us to obtainthe probability of delay inversion for all jitter mechanisms available.Simulation results are also presented to show the performance of differentjitter mechanisms.
