A fast and simple frequency domain method is introduced for the analysis ofmicroring modulator response using the Jacobi Anger expansion method. Resonancefrequency modulated microring (FMMR) modulators and coupling modulatedmicroring modulators (CMMR) are analyzed using this method. The linearity ofthese modulators is analyzed. The third order intercept point (IP3) iscalculated for CMMR devices and compared to Mach Zehnder interferometer (MZI)modulator devices. It is shown that CMMR devices can achieve a 12dB higher IP3compared to MZI devices. CMMR devices have high second order nonlinearity,while MZI devices second order nonlinearity is zero. A novel geometry based ondual CMMR modulators is introduced to improve the second order nonlinearity ofCMMR modulators.

A simple and fast frequency domain analysis method for calculating the frequency response and linearity of electro-optic microring modulators
