Berry phase polarization calculations have been investigated for severalferroelectric materials from the point of view of practical calculations. Itwas shown that interpretation of the results is particular to each case due tothe multivalued aspect of polarization in the modern theory. Almost all of thestudied examples show ambiguous polarization results which can be difficult tosolve especially for super-cells containing large number of atoms. For thisreason, a procedure has been proposed to minimize the number of calculationsrequired to produce an unambiguous polarization result from Berry phasepolarization investigations.
