Semi-empirical mass formula of the atomic nucleus describe binding energiesof the nuclei. In the simple form of this formula, there are five terms relatedto the properties of the nuclear structure. The coefficients in each terms canbe determined by various approach such as fitting on experimental bindingenergy values. In this study, the surface energy coefficient in the formulawhich is a correction on total binding energy has been obtained by a methodthat is not previously described in the literature. The experimental fissionbarrier energies of nuclei have been used for this task. According to theresults, surface energy coefficient in one of the most conventional formula hasbeen improved by a factor 3.4.
