Flexible fiber-optic endoscopes provide a minimally-invasive solution forimaging at depths beyond the reach of conventional microscopes. Currentendoscopes require focusing and/or scanning mechanisms at the distal end, whichlimit miniaturization and frame-rate, and induce aberrations. Alternativelensless solutions are based on adaptive wavefront-correction, but areextremely sensitive to fiber bending. Here, we demonstrate a novel endoscopicapproach, which enables single-shot imaging at a variable working distancethrough a conventional fiber bundle, without the use of any distal optics. Ourapproach computationally retrieves the object image from a single specklepattern transmitted through the bundle, exploiting phase information preservedthrough inherent angular speckle correlations. Unlike conventional fiber-bundleendoscopes, the resulting image is unpixelated, the resolution isdiffraction-limited, objects can be imaged at variable working distance, andthe technique is completely insensitive to fiber bending. Since no opticalelements are required, miniaturization is limited only by the bundle diameter.
