Water Cherenkov and scintillator detectors are a critical tool for neutrinophysics.Their large size, low threshold, and low operational cost make themexcellent detectors for long baseline neutrino oscillations, proton decay,supernova and solar neutrinos, double beta decay, and ultra-high energyastrophysical neutrinos. Proposals for a new generation of large detectors relyon the availability of large format, fast, cost-effective photomultipliertubes. The Electron Tubes Enterprises, Ltd (ETEL) D784KFLB 11 inchPhotomultiplier Tube has been developed for large neutrino detectors. We havemeasured the timing characteristics, relative efficiency, and magnetic fieldsensitivity of the first fifteen prototypes.
