This study defines a 3D shear-wave velocity model to the depth of about 350km in the region of Balkan Peninsula by application of several methods andtools: collection of surface-wave dispersion measurements; tomography on a gridsized 1 degree by 1 degree; non-linear inversion of dispersion relations; localsmoothing optimization; and juxtaposition of representative cellular models.This study upgrades, refines and extends the results obtained for the region byRaykova and Panza (2006), Raykova and Nikolova (2007), Panza et al. (2007) andBrandmayr et al. (2010).
