The recently-proposed effective shell-model interaction, thepairing-plus-multipole Hamiltonian with the monopole interaction obtained byempirical fits starting from the monopole-based universal force (PMMU), issystematically applied to nuclei of the pf5/2g9/2 shell region. It isdemonstrated that the calculation describes reasonably well a wide range ofexperimental data, including not only the low-lying and high-excitationspectra, E2 transitions, quadrupole moments, and magnetic moments, but also thebinding energies, for Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, As, and Se isotopes with A=64-80. Inparticular, a structure of the neutron-rich Ge and Se isotopes is discussed indetail.
