When heavy Quarkonia are formed in collisions between between nuclei, theirproduction cross section is modified relative to that in p+p collisions. Thephysical effects that cause this modification fall into two categories. Hotmatter effects are due to the large energy density generated in the nuclearcollision, which disrupts the formation of the quarkonium state. Cold nuclearmatter effects are due to the fact that the quarkonium state is created in anuclear target. I will review experimental aspects of quarkonia production dueto both hot and cold matter effects.
