We introduce a force-directed algorithm, called Sync-and-Burst, which fallsinto the category of classical force-directed graph drawing algorithms. Adistinct feature in Sync-and-Burst is the use of simplified forces ofattraction and repulsion whose magnitude does not depend on the distancebetween vertices. Instead, magnitudes are uniform throughout the graph at eachiteration and monotonically increase as the number of iterations grows. TheSync-and-Burst layouts are always circular in shape with relatively evendistribution of vertices throughout the drawing area. We demonstrate thataesthetically pleasing layouts are achieved in O(n) iterations.
