The most frequently employed measure for performance characterisation oflocal feature detectors is repeatability, but it has been observed that thisdoes not necessarily mirror actual performance. Presented are improvedrepeatability formulations which correlate much better with the trueperformance of feature detectors. Comparative results for severalstate-of-the-art feature detectors are presented using these measures; it isfound that Hessian-based detectors are generally superior at identifyingfeatures when images are subject to various geometric and photometrictransformations.
