We consider transformation-optics based cloaking in acoustic andelectromagnetic scattering. The blueprints for an ideal cloak use singularacoustic and electromagnetic materials, posing server difficulties to boththeoretical analysis and practical fabrication. In order to avoid the singularstructures, various regularized approximate cloaking schemes have beendeveloped. We survey these developments in this paper. We also propose somechallenging issues for further investigation.
