This paper presents a new and innovative design for scaleable space solarpower systems based on satellite self-assembly and microwave spatial powercombination. Lower system cost of utility-scale space solar power is achievedby independence of yet-to-be-built in-space assembly and transportationinfrastructure. Using current and expected near-term technology, this studyexplores a design for near-term space solar power low-Earth orbit demonstratorsand for mid-term utility-scale power plants in geosynchronous Laplace planeorbits. High-level economic considerations in the context of current andexpected future launch costs are given as well.
