Security of computers and the networks that connect them is increasinglybecoming of great significance. Intrusion detection system is one of thesecurity defense tools for computer networks. This paper compares two differentmodel Approaches for representing intrusion detection system by using decisiontree techniques. These approaches are Phase-model approach and Level-modelapproach. Each model is implemented by using two techniques, New Attacks andData partitioning techniques. The experimental results showed that Phaseapproach has higher classification rate in both New Attacks and DataPartitioning techniques than Level approach.
