The recently observed Higgs like resonance at 125 GeV shows an enhanced ratein the diphoton channel, while being roughly consistent with the standard modelexpectation for the $WW^*$ and $ZZ^*$ channels. Such an enhancement is possibledue to anomalous gauge boson couplings. We explore this feature within aminimal extension of the standard model, where a singlet scalar is introducedwhich also plays the role of the dark matter candidate. It is argued that sucha minimal scenario, without new charged particles, can in principle lead to thedesired enhancement of the diphoton rate via the induced anomalous gaugecouplings, and at the same time improve the stability of the electroweakvacuum.
