Structure and reaction studies with a method of antisymmetrized moleculardynamics (AMD) were reviewed. Applications of time-independent andtime-dependent versions of the AMD were described. In applications oftime-independent AMD to nuclear structure studies, structures of neutron-richnuclei such as Be, C, Ne, and Mg isotopes were described focusing on clusteraspects. Important roles of valence neutrons were discussed. The resultssuggested a variety of cluster structures appear also in unstable nuclei aswell as in stable nuclei. Deformation and cluster phenomena in $Z\sim N$ nucleiin $p$- and $sd$- shell regions were also discussed. Applications oftime-dependent AMD contain various topics such as fragmentation in heavy-ioncollisions as well as nuclear responses. The AMD calculations successfullydescribe multifragmentation which is one of the remarkable phenomena inheavy-ion collisions. The approach is able to link reactions and nuclear matterproperties. The studies suggested the important balance between single-particlemotions and correlations to form clusters and fragments.
