The standard model of the elementary particles is built on severalassumptions. The Higgs is assumed to be a scalar, a boson, with the charges ofa fermion (in the fundamental representations of the charge groups). Noexplanation is offered for the existence of families of fermions -- quarks andleptons-- for the charges of these family members, for the appearance of theYukawas which take care of fermion properties. The theory explaining the originof families predicts that several scalar fields with the boson kind of thecharges (in the adjoint representations of the charge groups) manifesteffectively at low energies as the Higgs and the Yukawas.
