The departure from ideal gas behavior is described by several known equationsof state (EoS), developed from a combination of theoretical considerations andexperimental correlations. In this work a different approach is proposed, inwhich from a pairwise potential of the Lennard-Jones type, interaction betweenmolecules is accounted for by means of a self-consistent force field. An EoS isthus derived and compared to the Virial and to the van der Waals EoS.
