The importance of individual hazard adjustments has been increasing worldwide to cope with the risks and damages caused by natural hazards. As individual hazard adjustments such as flood insurance have been effective in reducing the risk, the importance of risk perception that affects flood insurance adoption intention is also increasing. In South Korea, flood insurance is being operated as a tool for pooling risk by imposing insurance premiums on the insured. In addition to flood insurance, the government offers a disaster assistance policy that provides free grants to residents who suffer damage by natural hazards. Thus, there is a criticism that the disaster assistance policy's coexistence with flood insurance gives rise to a moral hazard and a distorted intention to adopt flood insurance. However, there is a lack of empirical analysis on the impact of risk perception on flood insurance adoption intention. Therefore, this study analyzed this impact based on the results of a survey of coastal area residents.
