Determining whether liquid combustibles are used is important while investigating a fire. In principle, involvement of liquid combustibles is investigated by chemical analysis. However, combustion and evaporation in the scene of fire make it difficult to determine the involvement of liquid fuel by chemical analysis of the fire residue. Therefore, as an alternative method for the determination of the involvement of liquid combustibles, the fire scene was simulated with FDS. The results were compared in terms of fire behavior and verified that additional conditions such as liquid combustibles were involved. Our results have confirmed that FDS verification is an effective method in spite of its limitations due to petroleum-based liquid combustibles that cause macroscopic effects on the fire behavior such as growth and spread of the fire.
