In this study, the extent of damage caused by a 5.8 magnitude earthquake which occurred on September 12, 2016 in Gyeongju through the field investigation in Gyeongju first and the survey was conducted on the residents in Gyeongju suffering actual damage from the earthquake to identify the current situation, problems and requirements in order to present measures for improvement in future. Also, the needs for earthquake disaster prevention was reviewed and measures to prevent damage from an earthquake in our country were examined based on the finding. First, it is necessary to improve the information delivery system in order to deliver situation report to residents promptly and accurately. Second, it is necessary to carry out education and training fitting for residents in order to strengthen the interest and capability of residents regarding an earthquake. Third, Emergency action plan and manuals, which can be practically utilized in the case of earthquake, should be provided to local residents.
