An environmentally benign, simple and efficient, one pot procedure for the synthesis of pyrazolo(3,4- d)pyrimidine derivatives have been developed by the reaction of aldehyde, 5-methyl-2-phenyl-2,4-dihydro-3H- pyrazol-3-one and urea/thiourea in glycerol. The present method affords high yield in short reaction times and devoid of harsh reaction conditions.
