A survey of medicinal plants used in the treatments of ruminant animals in the rural areas of Ekiti- State, Nigeria was conducted. A total number of 52 botanicals belonging to 25 families were identified for the treatment of 20 diseased conditions. The result also shown that some herbs were diseased-specific while others were effective as multipurpose remedies. Consequent upon this, features that enhanced the continuous utilization of these botanicals were identified and strategies that could enhance their sustainability were proposed.
