Traditionally, the DC Series Motor was used for Electric Traction for reasons like high starting torque and easy speed Control. With the Advancement in control mechanism 3-ph Squirrel Cage Motor is being used currently with an AC-AC Drive. A new Cost saving approach is suggested in this paper with the use of Slip Ring Induction Motor for Indian Railways which is switching over to fully electrified routes.
