In eastern Hokkaido, deep seasonal frost enhances freeze-thaw processes, which forms hummocky microforms on seasonally frozen mires. Field observations were undertaken in Beppo Mire ( 3°0 ′N, °3 ′E), which is covered with sedge and other herbs, surrounded by oak forest. Hummocks lie on the whole of sedgy mire.
