Informal discussions lead to cooperation in researchDuring 1995 a number of Biblical scholars from the Universities of the Western Cape andStellenbosch came together for some informal discussions on the interpretation of the Bible.With the occasional participation of scholars from other fields (e.g. Johan Degenaar and PaulCilliers from Philosophy) topics such as "Multidimensional interpretation", ''Textuality andIntertextuality" were discussed. From these informal discussions surfaced the desire toparticipate on a regional basis in a joint research project that would investigate the readingstrategies people use when they read the Bible.
