A semi-analytical laminate element technique developed fo r the investigation of guided wave propagation and diffraction in layered structu res with local inhomogeneities is presented. The approach is based on the use of fundamental so lutions for the pristine layered structure as a basis functions for the scattered field approx imation. As an example, its application to the investigation of resonance guided wave intera ction with deep surface notches in elastic layer, which gradually change shape from rectangul ar to elliptical, has been considered to estimate the effect of notch geometry on resonance freque ncies. The obtained numerical results are validated by the finite element simulation and expe rimentally confirmed on the basis of laser Doppler vibrometry.
