Redescription and figures are presented for Rhinoptes 1956 and IVleoboydaia pternistis (Fain, 1955) newly recorded from the partridge Bambusicola theracica thoracica {Temminck, 1815), in Japan. Pternistis Fain, Chinese bamboo Toshioka and Kaneko (1963} recorded 3 genera and 4 species of nasal mites (Sarcoptiforrnes) including a Rhinoptes sp. Furthermore, the authors collected many specimens frorn Chinese bamboo partridge in Japan, and ercamined these specimens in detail and found another species besides Rhinoptes sp. among them. They were identified two species as Rhinoptes l)ternistis Fain, 1956 and Nkobo.vtlaia pternistis (Fain, 1955). The occurrence of these species on the Chinese bamboo partridge of Japan constitutes new hostand distribution records from Japan. These two nasal mites wi}1 be redescribed and illustrated because of some equivoc:al features in the original description. The species was originally reoorded frorn the nasal fossae of Rhasianidae (Rernistis aLfer} in Ruanda and Congo, and the redwing francolin (Francolinus levaillantii) in Ruanda. In addition, he discussed at some lellgth the taxonomic status of the species from domestic fowl and from brown quail, and considered Rhinoptes pternistis Fain, 1956 a synonym of Rhinoptes gallinae de Castro and Pereira, 1951, because the$e two species were very clesely related each other in many respects. But the present authors separated these two species tentatively in this report.
