This paper reports a solvent-free methodology developed for synthesis of vicinal dibromo compounds using cetyltrimethylammonium tribromide (CTMATB). Reactions were conducted in a hot air oven and under microwave conditions. Results reveal that CTMATB allows facile solvent- free brominations with ease, affording good product yields in short reaction times.
