IT is currently becoming a relevant factor in the automobile industry, enabling manufacturers to satisfy customers who are always looking to experience something new. The controller area network(CAN) is an essential component for IT. However, when CAN is not working properly, it causes intermittent engine hesitation. Since it is not easy to reproduce the intermittent engine hesitation phenomenon, identifying the root cause of the problem has been difficult. Thus, a diagnosis of the intermittent engine hesitation process has been proposed. The process uses D-logger as the main equipment in uncovering possible causes. Additionally, major causes are explained in this paper, including a defect in the EGR valve, engine control wiring, and fuel. We conducted a case study to validate the proposed approach in which the EGR valve was found as the culprit. The proposed approach will be useful in diagnosing an actual case and in helping to minimize the time and cost spent to determine the root cause.
