O objetivo do presente texto e apresentar a fonte e a origem do significado moral das acoes humanas no âmbito da filosofia de Arthur Schopenhauer. Inicialmente, expoe as principais criticas que Schopenhauer faz a concepcao da moral kantiana. Com isso, a teoria moral schopenhaureana afasta-se de toda etica normativa. A seguir, e apresentada a teoria do carater, com enfase no sentimento da compaixao. So o misterio da compaixao permite compreender o significado moral da acao humana na negacao da vontade.
