La réception de la musique d’Anton Webern dans les cercles avant-gardistes deDarmstadt constitue l’une des questions centrales permettant de comprendre lesrelations entre les pensées compositionnelles de la première et de la deuxièmemoitié du XXe siècle. L’auteur s’appuie sur un « kaléidoscope » d’analyses différentes(voire contradictoires entre elles) d’une même oeuvre, l’opus 27 de Webern, pourmontrer de quelle façon les musiciens des années 1950 ont utilisé Webern à la foiscomme modèle, source d’autorité, miroir, voire prétexte de leurs propres techniquesde composition et convictions esthétiques. La façon dont Stadlen, Leibowitz,Schnebel, Pousseur analysent Webern en dit long sur l’enjeu que recouvrait alorsl’appropriation savante des partitions du Viennois. En complément, des analyses deNono, Ligeti, Pousseur et Stockhausen (sur un corpus wébernien plus large) sontsollicitées. Au terme de ces comparaisons, l’analyse musicale s’avère l’instrumentfondamental de transmission du savoir d’une génération à l’autre, et l’un des moyenspour déterminer l’horizon de nouvelles techniques compositionnelles.The reception of Anton Webern's music in the avant-garde circles of Darmstadtconstitutes a nexus through which the relationships amongst various ideas aboutcomposition that permeated the second half of the twentieth century may beunderstood. The author approaches the subject as a kaleidoscope of various oftencontradictory analyses of the same work, Webern's Opus 27, in order to demonstratehow musicians of the 1950's appropriated it as a model, source of authority, mirror,even as a pretext for their own compositional techniques and aesthetic convictions.The different ways in which Stadlen, Leibowitz, Schnebel, and Pousseur analyzedWebern reveal a great deal about the politics attached to the learned appropriationof this Viennese composer's work. Analyses by Nono, Ligeti, Pousseur, andStockhausen (of a broader corpus of Webern's music) further complement this study.Through comparison, music analysis becomes a fundamental instrument used todisseminate knowledge from one generation to another, and one of the means todetermine the horizon of new compositional techniques
