Dans cet article, l’auteur montre comment la création de l’Ecole polytechnique de Montréal, en 1873, va susciter l’émergence d’une nouvelle génération d’ingénieurs dont l’ésprit de corps les amène à se regrouper et à se construire une indentité qui les a différenciés socialement. L’auteur analyse alors les conditions socio-économiques et institutionnelles qui ont rendu possible l’ascension de ce nouveau groupe social au Québec, les ingénieurs francophones.The author shows in this article how the formation of the Ecole polytechnique de Montréal in 1873 allowed for the emergence of a new generation of engineers whose esprit de corps led them to organize themselves and to create for themselves an identity which distinguished them in a social sense. The author analyzes the socio-economic and institutional conditions which gave rise to the francophone engineers, a new social group in Québec
